No one likes looking foolish, especially when it’s a machine that gets the better of you. Yet, I think when we share life’s technical mishaps with our kids, or friends, or even beyond or beyond, we’re sending a message that says, “Hey look, this can happen to anyone; heed my warning.”

I just posted my latest PC faux pas for all to see on Symantec’s bloggers’ page for all to see. I wince about my idiotic mess when I read it, but I’m hoping that someone who might have been putting off a back up will hup to it after having read my tale.

So promise me that the next time you lose data, answer a spam letter by accident, download a piece of malware, or just forget that you didn’t press the “on” button before you called tech support, you’ll share with others who can benefit from the experience.

I’ve been thinking about how the technology they love so much can help them differentiate themselves from the masses. Check out my Yahoo! column where I show how blogs, web pages, and talk backs can paint a picture of a grad that’s ready to work!
